Confirm the error before rewriting

When someone flags a possible mistake, identify the precise statement and verify it with an appropriate direct source or responsible subject owner. Separate a factual correction from a preference or a changed interpretation. Record what is known and what still needs investigation. Avoid silently replacing one unsupported claim with another confident sentence. If the issue affects important decisions or a specialist subject, involve the appropriate qualified reviewer and follow the relevant editorial or business process before treating the wording as settled.

Trace the reused material

Find the page, email draft, graphic, downloadable resource and other assets that may have repeated the statement. Use the original source and asset records where available. A corrected article does not automatically repair a scheduled message or an image containing text. Prioritize the uses affected by the error and handle published material through the authorized process. Keep the correction clear and proportionate; do not describe an ordinary wording adjustment as new research or change a date merely to make the piece appear freshly reported.

Leave a maintenance trail

Record the corrected statement, its support, the assets reviewed and any unresolved copies. Where transparency requires a correction note, make it accurate and useful rather than defensive. Update the underlying brief or reference document so the same error is not reintroduced next time the topic is adapted. Review how the mistake entered the workflow and make a targeted improvement. The goal is to restore reliable information and improve the process, without turning every minor edit into an elaborate ceremony or assuming that fixing the most visible page completes the work.
