A product photography brief should explain the missing view

Choose images around the questions a buyer cannot answer from a product description alone.

List what the words cannot show well

Read the product description and identify the visual questions a prospective buyer may still have. They might need to understand scale, a closure, surface detail or how parts fit together. Write those questions before selecting a background or styling direction. The exercise should guide the images toward useful information rather than simply generating more attractive variations. Avoid implying that a photograph proves durability, compatibility or another characteristic that requires separate evidence or specialist testing to substantiate responsibly.

Separate demonstration from atmosphere

Specify which images must show the actual product and which may provide an illustrative setting. Keep dimensions, included accessories and variants accurate. A staged scene can accidentally imply that something is included or suitable for a use the product does not support. Review those implications before shooting or publishing. For each informative image, plan how its essential meaning will be available to people who cannot see it, following W3C's guidance on appropriate text alternatives and providing fuller nearby explanation where necessary.

Review the selected images against the questions

After the shoot, return to the original list and check whether the chosen views answer it. Look at crops on the intended page size, not only the full-resolution files. Verify that captions and alternative text refer to the correct version and variant. Keep asset identifiers connected to product information so later changes reach the relevant images. A smaller set of accurate, complementary photographs may serve the page better than a large gallery whose pictures all leave the same practical question unresolved for the buyer.
